Pantry Challenge With Dina

It is an honor to share a great guest post from my pal Dina. Enjoy!

Do you know what a pantry challenge is?

A pantry challenge is simply promising yourself to not go to the store except for perishable items (milk, produce, etc). So, in other words you are making do with what you have. When you do these you can do them because you are low on funds or you want to schedule a date night soon and need some extra funds. It's so simple and easy.

How do you do a pantry challenge?

I usually take a quick inventory of what I have in my freezer and my pantry of canned goods, dry beans, etc. Then I sit down and make a list of everything that can be made, including snacks, desserts, breakfasts, lunch and dinner! I will then break it all down. Here's what I have I can make for breakfast. If you have flour make pancakes, homemade muffins, scrambled eggs, whatever it is. For lunch it might be tuna salad on crackers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, leftovers or pizza on an english muffin. For dinner maybe it's rice and beans, chicken and dumplins or some kind of soup with your leftovers.

Try the pantry challenge!

There are endless ways to stretch your budget and a pantry challenge is one way. If you've never tried a pantry challenge try it and let me know what you think and tell me what you did with the money you saved!

  3. I am in the middle of a Pantry Challenge right now. I am on day 28 of not setting foot into a store. We use powdered milk, have chickens for eggs, frozen veggies, and I'm making smoothies with frozen fruit. I wrote about how I do a pantry challenge on my blog, if you're interested. Thanks for the post. Chili sounds excellent on this rainy day.
