Saturday #209

On Saturday #209 (#29 for Harper) my family allowed me to sleep until almost 8 am. Unaccustomed to a few extra hours I woke up with an achy back and a feeling I describe as sleep intoxication, you know that feeling of getting enough sleep that leads to good feelings? Giddy with rest?

I took the day at a relaxed pace. There was no baseball game to rush to, nowhere that I had to be. I mowed grass, played with the kids and eventually went for groceries.

Roo was more than happy to be my sidekick while I mowed. He is growing so fast. He  is a great helper. Truth be told, Roo just wants to be where I am. No matter what I am doing, as long as he is at my side he is pretty happy. It is a source of frustration in my marriage that Roo is so attached to me, my husband tells me I have made him a Mama's Boy. Well, so be it. He loves his Mommy, I love him. He will be too big to want to hang out with me before too long, so I happily soak in every minute of him being a Mama's Boy.

Harper is hilarious. A happier baby has never existed. You scoop Harp up in your arms and she delights you with laughter, smiles and lots of sloppy kisses. She is mobile, crawling at record breaking speeds. Getting into EVERYTHING. Trying to walk, giving me mini heart attacks all day long. My 7 month old can not be ready to walk! I am not ready.

It is funny how dull our weekends have been, but how I have never been more satisfied at the end of the weekend. I have found pleasure in the small things. Taking a walk with my kids in the morning. Laying on the floor coloring with markers with Roo. Holding Harper until she drifts off to dream nestled against me.

I hope that you had a great weekend with the people that you love. You get 940 Saturdays from birth to the time your kids are ready to go to college. Make the most of each one!

940 Saturday's: Saturday #208

On Saturday #208 (#28 for Harper) nothing exciting happened. The morning was spent trying to keep my son clean for baseball pictures... I failed and tossed him in the bathtub at the last minute.

After that was finished I mowed grass and folded laundry. Harper crawled around, exploring the house. Roo played outside. The day passed. We ordered Chinese for dinner. The day was over before I knew it.

Not an exciting weekend. I keep thinking... we did something... what am I forgetting? But I am drawing a blank, there was no exciting activity. But, that is okay. I spent the weekend with the kids.Mission Accomplished. I hope you had a great weekend. If you did anything tell me about it! As you can see my life needs a little inspiration. Laundry and lawn care are not the most exciting weekend activities.

Thanks for dropping by this installment in the 940 Saturdays series.

Tell Me About It Tuesday

Welcome back party people! I am so glad you came, despite me being really late with getting this party started. Apologies!

Since last week:

The virus my son came down with worked its way through my family. Husband was ill next, then the baby. I allowed myself 6 hours of a pity party when I began feeling ill, then I popped back up and got going!
Everyone was sick so the week was not spend doing anything fun. Unless you count 26 loads of laundry to be a blast {wink}.

Truth be told, I have at least 5 loads of laundry hidden in my daughters room to finish folding today.

Okay now onto the good stuff!

I have been featuring your links on the Sweet Silly Sara page as well as my personal page. {Hey, we can be friends-leave me a comment or send me an email [sweetsillysara at gmail dot com] and I will add you on facebook.} I am behind on the pins and comment love this week as well as features. So, I am asking the co hosts to pick a few they like and to feature them on their blogs this week while I get my groove back. If it works well who knows? It might stay this way.

On to the party!

Cinnamon Breakfast Squares With Yogurt and Berries Recipe

My friends at Post Cereal sent me some really yummy cereal and a great recipe to inspire this post.

My family loves easy breakfast items! When I saw this recipe I knew we had to try it. My husband and son love Greek Yogurt, I love berries and we all love Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal. This was bound to be a hit in my house.

Ingredients

1 cup Honey Bunches of Oats Morning Energy Cinnamon Crunch cereal
⅓ cup whole wheat flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
3 eggs
½ cup nonfat milk
2 Tablespoons melted butter, cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 ounces Greek yogurt
3 cups fresh berries (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries)
Honey, for drizzling
Nutmeg or Cinnamon, for sprinkling

Instructions
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Lightly butter and flour an 8-inch square pan, or coat lightly with nonstick cooking spray.

In a mixing bowl, stir together the cereal, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cinnamon. While stirring, slightly crush the cereal using the back of the spoon or rubber scraper; set aside.

In another bowl, beat eggs until well blended. Add milk, melted butter and vanilla, and mix well. Combine egg mixture with flour mixture. Pour batter (it will be thin) into prepared baking pan. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until it is set when lightly touched in the middle. Remove from oven and set on wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.

To serve, cut into 6 equal-sized bars and place on serving plates. Top each square with a dollop of Greek yogurt, surround with fruit, and drizzle with honey. Sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon and serve immediately.

Marital Bliss: If the Shoe Fits

Thanks to Lugz for sending a cool pair of shoes to inspire this post.

Marriages have good moments, bad moments and cringe inducing moments. My husband Adam makes me laugh until I cry, he makes me smile, groan in frustration, and debate how to update his wardrobe.

Adam is well dressed, don't get me wrong. During working hours he wears slacks and great shirts, but off the clock... laughter gets me by on some days. He has about 10 super hero t shirts, he wears one of these shirts every weekend. I tell him {rude? yes...} "I hate your shirt..." every weekend. He replies with "Everyone else likes them."  It never fails, some random stranger will approach my husband and tell him they love his t shirt. We both laugh about it. He keeps wearing them, I keep telling him the washing machine might accidentally start eating them.

My dear, Super Hero t shirt loving husband also has not the most stylish sense in footwear. He has great hiking boots, he wears Crocs at home... but his sneakers? Oh my gosh. Words will never do justice to what an image will convey.

When Lugz offered to send a pair of mens shoes that judgy wife in me felt victorious! Finally, one battle down without even saying a word.

Let me tell you a little bit about the Burke Linen sneaker for men.

The Burke Linen is a casual street sneaker with a laid back street style that’s easy to pull together when you’re on the go.

The Burke Linen features:

Linen Upper

Moc toe design
Waxy laces
Cushioned insole
Rubber outsole

I really love the olive color, it looks great on my husband. He liked it too. He usually opts for black or brown so olive was a step in a new direction for Adam. I liked that they look stylish, he can wear these with his t shirts on the weekend, or he can match them with an outfit for work on Friday.

Adam liked them all around, he said they are comfortable, he loves the style and the color. The shoes are durable and easy to keep clean, after trips to the mall, t ball games, and treks in the woods they still look great.

Now that the shoes are taken care of... on to those t shirts.

Give Dad the gift of style this year for Father's Day. Lugz has a great assortment of fashionable footwear for the entire family.

At Bat Baseball Printable Coloring Page

As I mentioned a few times my son is playing t ball this year. He is adorable and so not getting it! Which is funny in a way. Every day he asks me if he has baseball. He can name all of the kids on his team and he can't wait to get there. He completely flakes out as soon as he sees the playground. He can't remember how to hit the ball or where to run... oh my son, my one of a kind Roo, how much I adore that boy and his weakness for a playground!

Well anyhow, with the baseball thing going on I made a printable coloring page for Roo that I want to share with you.

I have another baseball theme coloring page. Print a few Baseball Pennant Coloring Pages for the kids, it might keep them busy for 3 minutes... HA!

Roo loved both of these, Harper did too, she tried to eat them. Which made Roo cry, and we had to print more. He didn't dig the baby slobber on his coloring pages.

Saturday #207

On Saturday #207 (27 for Harper) a truck was rented and a big 4th birthday gift was picked up. Short on time, a quick shower was had and the kids and I went to baseball. The game was cute, my son was not interested in playing baseball, but he was interested in slipping over to the playground... he is cute and he is rotten! How I love that boy.

We installed a new car seat after the game for little Miss Harper, I felt better about that as the way her head slumped forward in the Graco seat we were using.

I really didn't want to do anything that day. I have been in a personal funk lately. So when the game ended I came home to mow grass. We ordered out for dinner and I was happy to let my inner geek shine by working on a Saturday night after my kids were sleeping soundly. I bored {Mr.} Adam and he was quietly snoozing in a chair while I made the most of the quiet time.

Not an exciting weekend, but it was what I needed. I hope you has time to enjoy your children. Thanks for reading about one of our 940 Saturdays.

Happy Birthday Baby!

My Dear Roo,
Happy Birthday! You are 4 years old now. Oh my, how fast it has gone. It seems like just yesterday you came home from the hospital, an 8 pound 3 ounce bundle of cute with my blue eyes and the lightest blond hair. Immediately I was in love.

Every time I look at you, for just a second I see you like this. This is the first time I saw you, via a photo taken by Daddy.

This year has been different for you, in good ways. While you were 3 you graduated from a sippy cup. You have made huge improvements to your speech. I am so proud of you on that. When you were 2 you didn't talk a lot. You could say a few words, but you were mostly quiet. At 3, you talk a lot but it is mostly jibber jabber. Your vocabulary has grown incredibly. I love it when you talk to me.

My happy boy!

You became a big brother when you were 3. You take the job seriously and you love Harper. You often make her laugh and give her kisses. She looks up at you with wide eyes and a huge smile. You are too cute when she cries and you say "Hi Baby Harper Rae, I pet you!" to try to soothe her and you pet her head, much like one would a cat.

You have wonderful manners. I often hear how polite you are from others. I love that you say "Good Morning" and "Thank you" at every opportunity. I hope you always have that polite and sweet attitude.

You are such a cute little boy Roo!

When I had Harper and we were apart for a few days your daddy told me there was one thing that could always be said about you. You are loyal to your mother. I love that you always come to me. Just last week, you got hurt at the park, as your Dad tried to check you out you ran to me with such urgency that you knocked me off of my feet. We were in a heap on the ground, and you held onto me as tight as you could. I hope you will always come to me. {Roo was fine, just a little scared.}

Roo, I love you! You are my best buddy. A great helper, smart and almost too cute for your own good.
Happy Birthday! I can't wait to see what the age of 4 holds for you!

My Love

On Mothers Day, I don't really think of me. I don't feel that I should be celebrated for giving birth to my children, nor should I be doted on for caring for them. They are my kids, it is my duty to care for them. No applause is needed or desired.

On Mothers Day, I don't really want someone else cooking and cleaning for me. No offense, but I do things in my own way. I don't slave away, day in and day out. Sure I work hard, but I respect myself enough to hire a housekeeper for a few hours a month. I might grumble about my housekeeping duties sometimes, but I am mostly happy to do them. Some of them I enjoy entirely too much. Please don't deprive me of the strange zen I get from unloading the dishwasher because it is Mothers Day.

On Mothers Day, I don't want to sleep in. Sure I mutter a curse word every morning when I wake up, but I cannot stay in bed and rest when my kids are awake. My love is stronger than my need for sleep.
My kids will be grown soon enough. They will sleep late on weekends and I will have to drag them out of bed. I cherish every morning with them. Even the bad ones, especially now that I see how fleeting they are.

On Mothers Day, I don't want a snazzy gift or a day away. I don't think that spending the day without my kids is much of a day at all. You know, I buy what I like when I like it. But what I want for Mothers Day can't be bought.

On Mothers Day, I think of my kids. Of the lessons they are teaching me now. At 3 and 7 months. How they give me the drive to make my life memorable. How I have evolved since they came into my life. How my heart has grown. How my priorities have changed.

On Mothers Day, I want to spend the day, being a mommy. Kissing boo boos. Mixing bottles, changing diapers. I want to read stories, play outside and delight in the laughter of my children. I want to bask in the glory of my love for these amazing little people. I want to renew my commitment to being the best mom I can be, but this year I want to leave that lurking shadow of the perfect mom behind. I want to lead my children down the right path by setting a good example while letting them know that sometimes the good stuff isn't what seems perfect, but what is messy. I want them to know that sometimes you have to sift through the rubbish to find the treasure.

More than anything I want them to know that the depth of my love for them is endless. Roo and Harper, I am, as always, honored to be your mother.

Happy Mothers Day to all of the Moms out there. I hope that your family showers you with love, not only today on Mothers Day, but on everyday of the year.

Saturday #206

On Saturday #206 (#26 for Harper) we went to baseball practice in the morning. Roo loves being on a team, but he really doesn't get it. He is 3, and the experience is good for our family. He tries, he will catch on soon!

After baseball we had lunch and ran into the city. You know what that means. We shopped. I was thrilled to find cheesecloth on clearance and a few fun Easter trinkets I want to incorporate into a sensory bin

We came home early. I threw together dinner and gave the house a quick cleaning. Roo and his Daddy practiced baseball and Harper had a mini nap.

After dinner {asparagus, crab cakes and yummy little boiled potatoes} we gave the kids bubble baths and read a few stories. Then it was time for bed. I am always shocked at how fast our weekends pass by. It seems like we play, eat, shop, sleep.

Saturday # 206 was not overly exciting. The kids were adorable as always. We did typical things, but we did them together. Mission accomplished.

I hope that you had a chance to enjoy your children over the weekend. If you enjoyed this installment of 940 Saturdays... maybe you need a hobby...{just kidding!}.

Baseball Printable

We had a tee ball game tonight, Roo was pretty excited about it. He doesn't really get it, but he likes being on a team and playing with other boys. It was our turn for snack time, so I made a fun little printable to accompany our less than stellar offering to the team.

I really tried to have an awesome snack for the kids! I had fabulous apples! I had a method to use to keep the apples from turning brown. I got busy slicing the apples... then I hear my son laughing like a little tiny goblin in the bathroom.... yeah. The apples were brown by the time that was dealt with. So pretzels in small baggies and fruit snacks it was. Hey, it might lack nutritional value, but it was better than the candy someone suggested HA!

Well anyhow, me being me, to make up for the crappy snack I came up with this coloring page. If you have little ones on a baseball team, print this for when it is your turn to offer a snack after the game.  What kid doesn't like a fun coloring page?

Cheesy BBQ Meatloaf

Growing up my Mom made Meatloaf. All. The. Time. I groaned at the sight of a bottle of ketchup we had meatloaf so much.  My husband has always felt the same way. I guess his Mama made meatloaf a little too often as well.

Now I am a Mom. I like the idea of meatloaf. It is easy to make, it is filling and it is inexpensive too. By most means meatloaf is a perfect dinner option, but the bland taste always discourages me from even trying to serve it to my family.

A few weeks ago I had an idea of making meatloaf, but doing it my way. I created a yummy recipe that my has my family begging for meatloaf.

To prepare Cheesy BBQ Meatloaf you will need:

1 package of meatloaf seasoning (I used Kroger Brand)
2 pounds of ground beef
1 can of Campbell's Condensed Cheese Soup
1 1/2 sleeves of Ritz Crackers- crushed finely
4 ounces of cheddar cheese- cut into cubes
2 eggs
BBQ Sauce

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Combine  eggs, ground beef, cracker crumbs, cheese soup, cheese cubes and meatloaf seasoning. Mix well. Place in a 13" x 9" baking dish. Spread BBQ sauce over the top of the meatloaf and pop it in the oven for 1 hour.

The husband loves it when I make Cheesy BBQ Meatloaf, he says it tastes like BBQ ribs. Do you make Meatloaf the traditional way or do you add your own spin to it? I would love to hear from you!

Saturday #205 {Better Late Than Never}

On Saturday #205 (#25 for Harper) my family started the day off at Baseball practice. Roo was great this time around, he tried really hard! They ran the boys for almost an hour, so Roo was tired at the end of practice {Yay!!}

Then we were off to an Easter Egg hunt. It was cute for the kids, Roo enjoyed himself. He found his allotment of 10 eggs and was ready for a snack, Harper had fun at the Easter Egg Hunt as well. Her Daddy carried her around and helped her find her 10 eggs.

After a day of baseball and Easter fun I managed to get a sunburn. My husband and I had a good laugh over that. It was about 52 degrees that day. Since having Miss Harper my poor white skin has only seen the sun a handful of times in 6 months. Apparently 52 degrees and sunny was more than I could handle.

When we made our way home we had Easter Eggs to color and I had to clean for a visit from my mother in law. When the kids were in bed I was feeling quite exhausted myself, but I went to bed satisfied. The house was clean, the kids had a lot of fun that day and life was good.

I hope you had the chance to spend time with the people you love over the weekend. Every weekend that passes makes me a little sad as I think about how fast time has gone. I am so glad I started writing this series last year and I will have a record of how we spent our weekends to share with my children when they are older.

How did you spend your Saturday? Have you calculated where you are in the 940 Saturdays from birth until college?

Jelly Bean Infused Rum for the Weary Mom

Thanks to Blue Chair Bay for hooking me up with the goods to create this fun drink!

Have you ever had one of those days that seemed to be the day that wouldn't end? The day where everything goes wrong, everyone is fighting, the mess is never ending and your patience wears thin?

Ladies I had that day... over and over again last week. To the point that on Friday night I said "TGIF" as I had a really fun shot of Blue Chair Bay Rum with a twist.

Jelly Bean Booze? Oh yeah!

You know, Easter was not long ago. Do you have jelly beans in abundance? We sure did. This inspired me to make Jelly Bean Infused Rum.

You will need:
15 orange jelly beans
2 shots of rum- I used Blue Chair Bay.

Place the jelly leans in a plastic container with a leak proof lid
Add 2 ounces of rum
Seal, stash in the cabinet and walk away.

I waited for 6 hours before placing the container in the fridge for a few moments.

When the kids were in bed and I was finally able to unwind I took the 2 shots. They were fun and fruity and a great twist on a much loved White Rum.

After I drank the rum and I ate the 15 jelly beans which were colorless... but they had soaked up alcohol and gave me a little kick.

I felt the stress melt away with most of my cares. I don't recommend getting intoxicated all of the time, but Dear Weary Mom, sometimes you have flat out earned a drink! This is the drink to try as it will soothe your weariness away, at least for an evening!
