Christmas is around the corner
and soon the world will be saying goodbye to 2016. There is nothing as great as
the gift of family. You have your kids to celebrate Christmas with this year.
You are probably wondering what you do that will not be boring to them and that
will excite you as well. The most interesting thing is that you can do a lot of
things with your children this Christmas holiday. The only thing that you need
is to figure out what your kids like and leverage that to make some
constructive activities for them. Here are some simple ideas that you might
want to take advantage of:
1. Decorate the Christmas tree
This is an age old tradition that
is still being practiced all over the world. The sad thing is that most parents
are too busy to do it and they leave the work of decorating the Christmas tree
to the house-helps. They are the ones who bring the kids to decorate the tree.
However, you can set aside some time to decorate the tree with your kids- make
it your tradition. Believe it or not, it will not take a lot of time. It is
from such simple things that creativity is boosted. It is especially great for
teaching your kids colors and how to count.
2. Wrap gifts together
Now, this does not sound like
such a smart idea especially if you have already told the kids that Santa will
be bringing the gifts. However, if you are giving some gifts away to the local
church or your neighbors, the kids can help you to wrap the gifts. Of
course, they will not be the ones handling the sharp scissors. They can write the
Christmas cards that you will be giving out to friends and family. They can
also help you to tape the gift wrappings.
3. Teach them how to cook
Many parents are scared of
bringing their kids into the kitchen with them. The kids do not have to learn
how to switch on the oven or use the knives. However, they can help you with
the measurements. In fact, you can take advantage of this opportunity to teach
them some math like fractions. Measure half a cup, three quarters of a
tablespoon. You will be a math tutor to them and it is not going to be a hassle
because they get to visualize some of the things that they learn in school.
4. Color and make stories
Some of the finest Christmas
stories that are told nowadays did not come from professional writers. Again,
let your kids harness their creativity. They will make stories- some really
hilarious- draw and color to add visual to their stories. You can join them to
tell them stories as well. This gives them ideas that they will never forget.
In conclusion, the above are just
some of the many things that you can do with your children this Christmas.
Spending time with your kids does not necessarily have to be boring to you or
to them. There is so much more that you can try out but one thing that you
should keep in mind is that you can take advantage of the time you have with
your kids to have fun and teach them something new.
