graham cracker crumbs
whipped cream

Directions

Add ice cream to a tall glass
Top with cream soda

Optional:
Top with whipped cream and 1 teaspoon of graham cracker crumbs

Inner Peace: Looking at Quick Fixes, Alternative Methods and Long-term Strategies for Relaxation

Relaxation is the cure for stress, but attaining it does feel impossible. Our current life’s hectic pace leaves a lot of people scrambling for moments of peace, but relaxing is important. Whether that means quick fixes to calm your frayed nerves or longer term solutions to find your equilibrium, everyone can find their own path towards relaxation. In this blog, we will look at some of the strategies that are designed to restore tranquility for anyone.

Quick Fixes to Ease Stress

At times of peak anxiety or when time is limited for recovery, quick fixes can give you short-term comfort that can be highly effective when used right.

Deep Breathing Can Work Wonders

Although deep breathing exercises can look pretty simple, they can significantly lower your stress levels quickly. Techniques such as the 4-7-8 method (inhale for four seconds, hold for seven seconds, exhale eight seconds) can signal to your nervous system that relaxation should ensue. Plus this hack doesn’t need equipment and can even be done anywhere, from meetings to rush hour traffic jams.

Aromatherapy to the Rescue

Never underestimate the calming power of scent. Essential oils like lavender, chamomile and eucalyptus have been used as stress relievers for ears. Simply inhaling these soothing scents can create an atmosphere of relaxation quickly. Incorporating essential oils like these into a diffuser or keeping one handy can quickly create an oasis of serenity wherever you are. Keeping a small bottle handy could give you instant stress relief during an otherwise chaotic day, helping to restore your focus and tranquility quickly. Perfect whether at home, work or while traveling, aromatherapy serves as an efficient yet effortless means of relieving tension while simultaneously increasing relaxation.

Stretch Away Tension

Spending just five minutes stretching can relieve tension stored in shoulders, necks and backs. Movements like forward folds and shoulder rolls can help loosen your tight muscles for relaxation and stress relief. Incorporating stretching into your daily routines, whether at your desk, kitchen or between tasks, allows your body and mind to reset, making stressful moments more manageable and also improving your overall balance.

The Classic Cup of Tea

Never underestimate the humble cup of tea. Herbal varieties such as chamomile, peppermint and green tea contain compounds which naturally reduce stress hormones. Taking five minutes out of your day for sipping and enjoying can become a micro-meditation in itself.

Alternative Methods

For those in search of something different when it comes to their wellness journey, alternative methods and therapies offer unique ways of soothing your nerves. While these approaches may look a bit strange at first, they provide holistic benefits that support your body and mind in meaningful ways.

Acupuncture for Reducing Stress

This ancient practice involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the body in order to release pent-up energy and restore balance. Studies have proven its efficacy for relieving anxiety and encouraging relaxation, making acupuncture worth considering as a deeper reset option.

Float Therapy

Floating in a sensory deprivation tank filled with warm, buoyant saltwater in total darkness without external stimuli like sound or light, that is float therapy. It is an experience which offers profound mental and physical reset and often results in the sensation of weightlessness for an immersive and soothing experience.

Cannabis for Deep Relaxation

Cannabis has become an effective means of attaining deep relaxation and relieving stress. The soothing effects of cannabis flower in particular are known to help people unwind and find peace within their daily lives. Whether through traditional means such as smoking or via infusing wellness products with cannabis, such as aromatherapy, cannabis has many ways to help you relax. Thanks to its natural origins and versatile applications, it has become an attractive holistic approach for managing tension and improving your overall well-being.

Sound Baths for Serenity

Sound baths have become a popular and powerful mindfulness practice. Their vibrations soothe and relax the mind, alleviate tension, and facilitate meditation with minimal effort required.

Art or Music Healing

Sometimes the missing piece to finding peace lies not in sitting still but rather expressing yourself creatively. Art therapy, like painting, sculpting or simply doodling, can help release stress into an artistic medium such as a canvas. On the other hand, music therapy uses melodies as therapeutic agents. This just shows that any form of creativity is therapeutic.

Long-Term Habits for Lasting Impact

While quick fixes and alternative methods can give you temporary relief, lasting relaxation requires taking a more deliberate, holistic approach. Building in certain activities into your routine so that calm becomes part of your everyday lifestyle versus an occasional indulgence.

Meditation and Mindfulness Practices

These tools of inner peace are powerful means for lasting inner tranquility. Regular mindfulness practices train the brain to remain present, minimizing background noise of stress and anxiety. Apps such as Headspace or Calm can give you guidance and structure if you are a beginner looking to start mindfulness practices.

Exercise in Reducing Stress

Physical fitness aside, exercise can also play a big role in relieving stress. From yoga and tai chi to even simple walking, moving regularly boosts your endorphin levels while lowering cortisol levels. Making movement a consistent part of your week builds resilience against life’s pressures.

Prioritizing Sleep Hygiene

A great night of sleep can have a dramatic effect on your emotions and stress levels. If you are not getting any Z’s at the moment, start by creating an environment conducive to restful sleep (such as cool temperatures, limited screen time before bed, and a consistent schedule), as doing so can significantly ease the tensions you might feel and help get you relaxed to fall asleep. Sleep is more than simply getting in “recovery time”, it also plays an important part in your emotional stability and mental clarity.

Conclusion

Relaxation doesn’t have to be hard to achieve. All it requires is awareness, practice and the willingness to find what truly nourishes your body and mind. Quick solutions such as fragrant aromatherapy or sound bath therapy might work, while developing long-term strategies can create balance in any chaotic life. Take time for resting, relaxing and breathing, because life’s too short otherwise.

Cherry Berry Pie

Blackberry Cherry Pie is sweet and tart and incredibly crave-able. My recipe includes these fantastic little dough balls for a delicious addition to this lovely pie!

This post contains affiliate links and or sponsored content.

I picked up some little boxes of blackberries over the weekend. I had this vision of baking an out of season pie to change up the flavor pace in my kitchen. Then, as I was indulging in a spot of champagne over the weekend, those lovely berries crossed my mind. How decadent would it be to float plump blackberries in some beautiful bubbly? Let me tell you, it was dreamy... but it also left me short on berries for my pie.
I was still craving a blackberry pie, with dough balls, but I do not kid anyone with a mini pie. A good pie is a pie that you can share! A mini pie is not share-able!
I surveyed my kitchen and found 2 cans of cherry pie filling. I thought it over. I like cherries and berries. I like pie. Yep, this was destined to be. Luscious, fresh blackberries sprinkled with sugar and blended with cherry pie filling.

Ingredients:

2 boxes of blackberries
2 pie crusts
1/3 cup of sugar

Directions:

Combine your clean blackberries and sugar. Stir and allow to sit for a moment.
Place one pie crust in a pie pan, form small balls of dough with the other and drop these in the pie crust.
Combine your cherry pie filling and sugared berries, stir.
Pour the fruity mixture into the pie crust, over the dough balls. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
This easy pie can be made with pre-made or homemade pie crust. You could leave the dough balls out, but that is the BEST part of the pie in my opinion!

Citrus Candles

If you are looking for a cheap and easy DIY that makes use of food scraps, adds elegance, and can be tossed after use, then you are going to love these easy candles. These are just the right size to burn on the deck in the evening and are so cute!

This project is so easy to complete. I had a few candle wicks and a small bag of wax melts to use. I also had a few bruised and battered citrus fruits. This idea was born from a way to add ambiance to a date night at home, by using items I already had on hand.

Directions:

Cut citrus fruits in half.

Discard all fruit until you are left with just the peel.

You could use fruits that you juiced for lemonade or limeaid.

Melt wax in the microwave, or in a double boiler over medium heat until it is liquid.

Pour a drop of wax into the peels and stick the wick into the peel.

Fill the peel with wax.

You can either poke a hole into a craft stick and feed the wick into the hole, or just wrap the wick around the stick to keep it in place.

Allow the wax to harden.

Trim the wicks, light and enjoy.

These will float, or just make a nice candle for on the porch that will burn down within an hour.

These also would make a nice gift to share with someone who invites you over to a bbq or for drinks.

They are also just gorgeous to watch burn!

After you make these once, you will want to reserve all of your beat up citrus fruits to make them again!

You can also make these with oranges if you have them on hand!
