Monster Hand-print Puppet

These hand print puppets are adorable and they will be a monstrous hit with your kids! They take the most basic of supplies and come together in a flash for a lot of fun for everyone!

We love to make puppets you guys. Harper and I can craft up a handful of puppets and she will spend the rest of the day, wrapped up in a world of her own dramatic creation!

We decided that now was the perfect time to make a few easy peasy hand print monster puppets! These were fun because they ready to play with in a matter of moments and they were so cute!

construction paper
squiggly eyes
craft stick

Trace a hand on construction paper.

Cut it out.

Glue on as many eyes as your child desires. We used 3.

Draw polka dots, hearts or whatever you like to give your monster a fun look.

Glue the craft stick on the back, leaving enough room for small hands to hold on to the stick.

There you have a fun handprint monster for Halloween dramatic play!

Saturday #328- Saturday #332

On Saturday #328 we spent the day preparing for a visit from Grandma. She wanted to come up to visit and go to lunch. This means I spent a great deal of the day cleaning up toys galore.

We did manage to fit some outside playtime in with the kids up the street. Rolf and Harper were thrilled to have a bunch of kids to make noise with.

On Saturday #329 my mother came to visit. The kids were happy that she brought pumpkins and donuts. The managed to break away from the visit to play with the neighborhood kids.

On Saturday #330 we went to Cedar Point for a break from the normal. The family enjoyed the park while I attended bloggy con and gave a session after the conference on the subject of facebook live.

On Saturday #331 we went for a hike at Heckert Nature Preserve. The kids did pretty well on the hike, alrhough we did leave the binky behind and half way through the walk Harper had a melt down and needed to be carried out of the woods.

On Saturday #332 we woke up early and went to a fall craft show. After that we took the kids to an Oktober fest. We in the evening headed out to buy pumpkins and gourds.

I regret that I have not prioritized these entries in the 940 Saturday series and have resorted to lumping them together to the best of my memory, but I am still glad to have some kind of record of how we spent our Saturdays together as a family.

Paper Plate Crowns

Paper Plate Crowns are super easy to make and incredibly fun for kids! You need only a few items to make these and your kids are going to adore them!

Harper is into all things princesses these days! The gowns, the shoes, the crowns! A few weeks ago, I made these fun paper plate crowns on Quirky Momma, and I knew I wanted to recreate the craft with Harper! You guys, these are so easy to make. You are going to want to pin this for rainy day reference!

All you need is a paper plate, a pair of scissors and some markers or crayons.

Begin by gently folding your plate in half.

Cut it thru the center, extending to right before the plate becomes textured on the side.

Make another cut in the opposite direction, Repeating until you have made 4 cuts. It is kinda like cutting a pie.

Next, fold the cuts so they stand up. Repeat until all sections are standing up.

Color the crown, in whatever colors you like, I added hearts for Harper.

Now you have a crown, fit for a princess!

Every Smile and Snack Counts With Goldfish

As a mom of a few kids, there are a few things I am well versed in. Snacks, smiles, and stories are a few of the things that I know well after years of experience in motherhood. When we can combine snacks, stories and smiles together, it is kind of like a hole in one moment for everyone involved!

We often turn to a good book and  a snack that smiles back, a family favorite brand, Goldfish Crackers baked with real cheese. I feel less guilt for offering a snack, which makes me smile. My kids are grinning from ear to ear, every time they munch their snack as I read a story.

I love to serve goldfish because they are made without preservatives, and they are made with real cheese! That is a recipe for delicious in my opinion!

Goldfish are available at many retailers and they are available in so many yummy flavors! From original to whole grain cheddar and in fun colors to make snack time even brighter!

As if Goldfish crackers aren't fun as is, there is a monthly Goldfish Tales promotion you won't want to miss! There are awesome prizes to be won, and all you need to do to enter is snap a pic and share!

With Goldfish and a good book we are making every smile count, every smile add up and every snack that smiles back moment a happy one.

What kind of snacks do you feel good about feeding your kids? Do you turn to Goldfish for a smiling snack to offer the kids?

Paper Plate Witch Craft

This paper plate craft is perfect for toddlers and school aged children. This one requires simple supplies you likely already have and comes together in a flash!

We have been crafting up a lot of Halloween fun! The kids are really excited about spooky fun and awesome costumes, so I have been indulging their interest and excitement with easy crafts!

To make this fun witch craft all you will need is:

A paper plate
Green Paint or Markers
2 fun googly eyes
Black Construction Paper
Orange Construction Paper

Color or Paint the Paper Plate Green

Cut a triangle from the black paper, then cut a strip slightly longer than the triangle, glue these onto the paper plate like a witch's hat.

Tear a few strips of orange paper for hair. Tearing instead of cutting will give kids a chance to use fine motor skills plus make the paper curl slightly, which is just fun! Glue the hair onto the witch.

Next, add eyes and draw on a nose and a mouth. We gave our witch a cute smile.

There you have a cute, friendly and fun Paper Plate Witch craft! This is great for little ones because it is creative, it gives them the opportunity to use their scissor skills and work their fine motor skills too. Additionally, it offers your home a touch of personalized Halloween decor!

How to Rock a Hurricane Like a Boss

This most may contain affiliate links.

Hurricane season is here and many of our readers are in the path of the latest storm. While it is a major pain in the hiney to face a tropical storm or a hurricane, have no fear wonderful people. I am going to share a few of my tips to help you handle this hurricane and any others that come your way like a boss in reasonable style and comfort, given the situation.

Stock Up!
Ok, I know the experts are going to say buy things like bottled water and tuna fish, but come on people. Drastic weather calls for comfort. Instead of getting in a fist fight over the last cans of spam on the store shelves, let's get real. No one wants to eat spam in good weather, let alone terrible weather. Buy all of the pop tart's, granola bars, cold cereal and snack cakes you can get your hands on. Buy soda, booze and single serve fruit juice drinks. Buy candy, coffee singles that are like tea bags, and shelf stable milk. Buy the damn doritos and bean dips like there is no tomorrow.

Kiss Your Ice Goodbye
Accept that ice is going to be something you want, but don't have. Do not stand in line at the gas station for an hour for a bag of ice, just will yourself to go without it. I once paid $10 for a bag of ice and got a handful of laffy taffy as my change. Never again. Ice ain't worth $10, no matter how hot it might be outside.

Run, Don't Walk, to the Sporting Good Store
No, I am not crazy. But I am going to give you a tip to help you keep your cool. Buy as many cooling towels as you possibly can. There are these great ones out there by Mission that will make life feel a little cooler in the sweltering temps while you wait on your power and beloved air conditioning to return.

Dust Off the Board Games
In 2004 we lost power for a week during a hurricane, 2 weeks later we lost power for another week during a second hurricane. We played board games with reckless abandon. We battled it out over every game we could get our hands on and somehow we survived a week without electric, air conditioning, television and gasp even our phones as charging them was nearly impossible.

When In Doubt...
Get your booty to the hardware store for denatured alcohol right now if you have a fondue set. If not, Get. One. Now. You can heat soup, make ramen noodles and even brew hot coffee if you have a handy dandy fondue set. You will be the envy of your friends and neighbors if they get a whiff of some hot soup, oatmeal or whatever cooking. If they smell your hot coffee, look out  cause you might just become block president or something if you are willing to share. I am not certain, but I would be willing to guess that in a pinch votive candles would heat a fondue pot nicely if you can't get the Denatured Alcohol easily.

What are your pro tips for riding out the storm? Do tell so that everyone can hunker down with minimal annoyances and maximum comfort!

How to Get Rid of Your Winter Belly

Winter is just around the corner and we all know what that means, comfort food to keep warm and holiday season over-indulgence. Try as you might, year on year we always give in to temptation during the winter and end up spending New Years Eve promising ourselves that January will be dedicated to shifting the fat that weve accumulated. I wont be so foolish as to write a post about how you should be keeping in shape during these coming months, although of course, it is advised. Instead of that Im going to give you some tips on how you can best shift that winter belly once January comes.

Exercise Should be Focussed on Cardio

When it comes to getting rid of fat, cardio will be your best way out of it, there is nothing wrong with lifting light weights with lots of repetitions to help shift the weight but ultimately it will be cardio where you should be focusing your efforts. When exercising, you cant target fatty areas and cardio will work out your whole body, when you hit the gym in January, head straight for the cross trainer and the treadmill for your road back to slimsville.

Dont Crash Diet

It can be easy to fall for one of the fad diets in order to get rid of your bulge, these will only serve you in the short term and by February you will be back to where you started. I see people all of the time trying the cabbage soup diet and others such crash dieting, believe me, it isnt the way to go. Focus on a healthy, nutrient filled diet that will gradually lose the weight and ensure that it stays off.

There is Nothing Wrong With a Little Help

There is nothing wrong with supplementing your diet with some vitamin and plant-based supplements, these can often aid your weight loss and give your body a much-needed energy boost. Programs like Le-Vel Thrive can really help during your get-fit mission, it's a simple patch that you place on your arm and will give you a unique blend of nutrients that your body needs to help your weight loss and boost your performance.

Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork

If you have friends who have also fallen by the wayside during the holiday season then team up with them to work on shifting the kilos that youve put on. Losing weight with friends as a team will keep you driven and make the whole experience more fun. You can create meal plans and exercise regimes with your friends and even hit the gym together to spur each other on. When you are dieting you may have slip ups, that cheesecake, that bottle of wine or that take-away that you knew you shouldnt eat, what often happens is that you decide you've ruined your diet and you may as well carry on with the junk, having the responsibility of supporting your friends will help you to stay on track after a mistake.
